I have recently joined the DoFollow revolution and allowed for the comments on this blog to be followed by Google and other search engines. The reason I did this? Quite simply I want to add as many incentives as possible for my readers to comment on this blog. I would like to have an active community here and I believe this might just kick start that process.
So warning if you comment on this blog, and it is meaningful and not spam then your link will be followed by Google.

I added your link to my DoFollow list! Best of luck Richard!

this will indeed increase the number of comments on your blog. everybody wants free links
i’ve been using a dofollow plugin for quite some time now.

Yes I am sure that this will help out in trying to increase the popularity of this blog. However I am still going to check each and every site that someone posts to my site. Basically I do want to get penalized for having links to “bad neighborhood” in my site. Also as long as the comment adds some meaning to the post I will allow it. DoFollow is on but so is my moderation of the comments.

I’m a member of the Do-Follow movement too, and you will see the badge on my sidebar.

Kuanyln,
Thanks! I will be sure to come to your blog and comment if I have something to add of value to any of your posts. I should really place the badge on my website as well I just have not done that yet.

This really sounds like an interesting concept. How did you do that on your blog? A quick google search for DoFollow reveals, that there is a world of DoFollow Wordpress Plugins out there. At least a dozen. Which one are you using? Thanks!

Chris,
Thanks! Wish I had thought of it first but none the less it is a great concept. Reward those that contribute! I am all for that! Anyways to answer your question I am using this plugin
http://kimmo.suominen.com/sw/dofollow/
I am pretty sure the others will do the same job but this is just the one i found first and then installed it on my blog. Works fine under 2.0 wordpress so I am sure that it will work fine in your site as well. No complaints here.
There is also a “badge” to display on your blog indicating that you are a DoFollow blog but I have yet to add that as I predict that this is going to become the norm anyways and that will simply detract from everything else. I like to keep things simple and easy to read.
Well I hope this helped you out.

Hi,
I’m keeping an updated Do Follow List on my site and since yours is do-follow as well, I want to ask you if you want to join my list too.
There are over 230 websites featured here, so go on and start commenting on those appealing to you.
Let me know!
Thanks,
Nick

Oh, and I forget to mention that I also started a Link Directory with Do Follow categories.

So has it helped with the number of comments you’ve been receiving? If so, how much?
Richard Callaby | 25-Aug-07 at 10:07 am | Permalink
Hard to determine actually. Since I do not have a baseline figure I can not give an accurate figure as to how much this is actually helping. But that is besides the point. I believe that those that give good meaningful comments should be rewarded in some small way for their effort. After all they are contributing to my site and to the discussion in general.

How much spam do you get from this? I’ve been considering putting this on my blog but I already get a decent amount of spam in Akismet and I’d prefer to spend my time writing articles rather than moderating my spam log
Richard Callaby | 22-Nov-07 at 6:06 pm | Permalink
To be honest I do not get that much spam. When I do I just simply mark it as spam and never see it again. I do moderate all my comments so that helps a bit, I think that scares the spammers away. of course now that I said that I could be bombarded with spam but hey at least I have an active blog.
