A Storm Approaches!

It seems like improving your technorati ranking is quite hard when you have a travel blog. Without a diehard following getting natural backlinks can be quite difficult as this area is quite saturated with many bloggers writing about their various vacations and business trips. So to combat this effect I am creating a link cloud of my own that is focused on travel blogs. In order to participate please create some unique text above the link cloud so that we do not get penalized by google for having duplicate content on our blogs. I will start us off with the first five blogs that are my favorite. Simply add your favorite travel blogs, that are not already listed, to this list on the top.

If you have not been tagged then you can still participate by placing your favorite travel blogs at the top but please leave the original links so that the cloud can grow and help us all out.

Hopefully everyone will start to benefit from this cloud as it grows and grows. I hope to find some interesting travel blogs from this experience as I am sure I am not aware of them all and would like to expand my horizons a bit more.

Thanks for the mention, Richard – I’m glad you enjoy my sporadic posts! Good idean with the cloud (where is the cloud, by the way?), but what’s the score if your favourites concur (even in part) with anothers blogger’s favourite travel blogs? Surely this exclusivity will end up converting this into just a big list of travel blogs if you can’t simply pick your top 5 (ie. if a blog has already been mentioned you have to pick others to make up the full 5). I’ve probably missed something here – its been a long day!
Good luck with the site, and I look forward to visiting again soon :)

    Nath,

Sorry I guess I should have made this a bit clearer. I was attempting to be creative and I guess it is not working out. Since most travel writers do not like to be called geeks I am calling this a link cloud instead of a geek train. The idea is that you, or anyone else, place their favorite travel blogs on this list and that forms the link cloud. Right now it is kind of like a small white puffy cloud off in the distance. There is no score you see other than to offer some link love to those travel blogs you enjoy the most.

Hope this helps. I will try and update the post to make it a bit clearer.

Cool. Thanks for such a quick reply! Hope to get involved real soon, but have to sort out a few ‘real world’ things beforehand :(
    Regards.

    That’s an awesome idea.

I hope it works out for you so that you can build your technorati rating!

    Bryan,

Thanks! so far it is working well. Hopefully this will help to increase the technorati ranking of alot of travel blogs that I like and are well liked in the blogosphere.

I added your links to my travel blog, Vintage-Tees. Just thought I’d let you know about it. I’m the undiscovered travel blog primarily because I have been lax in posting.

  7. SEL Says:

you can make this scheme successfull if you’ll contact your target participants via email. Most of the successfull link-train organizer do have the long list of blogs that they want to be contacted to participate.

  8. Richard Callaby Says:

True contacting the particpants beforehand might have sped things up a bit however as most of the people on my list did participate I consider my first organized tech meme a great success. Yes it will help in increasing my google pr and technorati rankings but that is secondary to finding other great travel blogs. It is getting to know the community that I am after and not just the links. This just continues to spread and just knowing who else out there is passionate about writing about travel is fine by me.

    Kuanlyn,

Thanks for adding the links I know I appreciate any links back from fellow travel blogs. Also thanks for making me aware of yours. If you did not link to me I am not sure if i would have found your blog in such a short time period.

Great idea to improve upon your Technorati rating. At times building my own rank is like a roller coaster ride, but definitely worth it in the end.

  11. Kristie Says:

Nice idea. I’d love to see a follow-up post in the future about any changes in your ranking.
