Well since I previously discussed where to get the best pizza slice in Venice I thought it was time to give some thought on where to stay in Venice. One of the best tips I heard lately was that the Bauer Palladio Hotel & Spa is one of the nicest hotels in the area. However, since this hotel is on the waterfront on the Giudecca across the Canale Della Giudecca from St. Mark’s square the prices are sure to be pretty steep especially for the waterfront rooms.
Myself I have stayed in the Westin Hotel and Regina on the Grand Canal and found the rooms and service to be outstanding although the price for the room was also quite high. One of my chief complaints about this hotel was that they offered a buffet but when you went to check out they asked you what you took and then charged you accordingly. Perhaps they do not fully understand the idea behind a buffet or rather what Americans think a buffet should be. However since that was my only complaint when I stayed there I found the hotel to be a shining example of excellent service and attention to detail.
So if you have stayed in any place particularly nasty or nice let me know about it! I want to hear from fellow travelers to Venice! Comments are welcome and they count!

How rich you must be to wonder which is the best hotel in Venice! Much more useful to many of us is ‘The Best Campsite in Venice’, and I’d like to recommend ‘Camping Fusina’ which is a really lovely campsite with good facilities. A vaporetto service leaves from just next to the campsite - it takes just 15 mins to the city. But watch out for the almost daily mozzy spraying!
Venice is a really beautiful city - when I visited, we were out one evening at enjoyably relaxed restaurant, when there was a city wide power-cut. Candles were swiftly brought to all the tables, and we carried on eating in the long shadows. But how were we to get back to the vaporetto in the dark? We needn’t have worried though, because all the city’s residents, obviously well-prepared, had put out candles. It was a magical walk through dimly-lit streets back to the boat.

Andy,
Thanks for the tips on the camping grounds in Venice! Much appreciated! I may even do a post on the subject and ofcourse give you credit for that suggestion.
Actually I am not rich at all but you can still wonder and dream, right? I mean it is a unique experience staying in Venice so why not stay in the best hotel you can afford.
Again thanks for the tips.

The best hotel in Venice may be the Danieli. It is a 14th century palace. I accommodate the most demanding clients on my tours there. It is also one of the most expensive hotels in the world.
